Privett Road
Street guide, Lee-on-the-Solent
Privett Road runs through the eastern part of Lee-on-the-Solent towards Gosport, forming part of the residential network that connects the Elmore area to the wider road system. The road is named after Privett, a hamlet in the Hampshire countryside, following the convention of several Lee streets that take their names from places elsewhere in the county. Properties along Privett Road are predominantly mid-twentieth century houses set in suburban plots, and the street has a quiet, established character. Bay House School, a secondary school serving the Gosport area, is accessible from this part of the town, and the school's playing fields contribute to the area's open feel. Privett Road provides a useful alternative route when the main Gosport Road is busy, though it passes through residential areas with a 30 mph limit throughout. For visitors, the street is primarily a transit route, but the nearby footpaths offer access to some of the area's less-visited green spaces, including Wild Grounds and the Alver Valley corridor. The eastern edge of Lee-on-the-Solent has a different feel from the seafront-focused centre, with a more typical Hampshire suburban character. Residents here are well-placed for access to both Lee's independent shops and the larger retail and service offerings in Gosport town centre. The coastal path at Stokes Bay is within walking distance.
