Elmore Road
Street guide, Lee-on-the-Solent
Elmore Road runs through the Elmore area on the eastern side of Lee-on-the-Solent, heading towards Gosport. This residential street connects the quieter parts of eastern Lee to the main road network and forms part of the route used by many residents commuting to Gosport or accessing the wider transport links from there. The Elmore area has its own distinct identity within Lee-on-the-Solent, sitting slightly apart from the main town centre and retaining a quieter suburban character. Properties along Elmore Road are a mix of interwar semi-detached houses and later additions. The road provides access to footpaths leading towards Stokes Bay, one of the area's most popular beaches, which features a sailing club, a seasonal cafe, and views across to the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth. Wild Grounds nature reserve lies within walking distance, offering a pocket of woodland and grassland habitat that supports a range of bird species. Browndown battery, a scheduled ancient monument, is also accessible from the paths in this area. For visitors, Elmore Road is useful primarily as an approach route, but the surrounding area rewards exploration on foot. The coastal path running along Stokes Bay connects eastward to Gosport's waterfront and westward back to Lee's main seafront, creating opportunities for circular walks of varying length. Bus services pass through the Elmore area on the Gosport to Lee route.
