Cherque Way
Street guide, Lee-on-the-Solent
Cherque Way runs through the Cherque Farm housing estate on the western side of Lee-on-the-Solent. This estate was developed from the 1970s onwards on former agricultural land, and its layout of curving streets, cul-de-sacs, and crescents is characteristic of suburban planning from that era. The development takes its name from Cherque Farm, which formerly occupied the site. Cherque Way serves as the main route through the estate, connecting its various sections to Milvil Road and from there to the town centre and other parts of Lee. The estate is predominantly residential, with a mix of detached houses, semi-detached properties, and some smaller units. A parade of local shops including a convenience store serves the immediate area. Crofton Community Centre, situated nearby, hosts activities and events for residents. The Cherque Farm area has a strong community identity within Lee-on-the-Solent, and its residents' association is active in local affairs. For visitors, the estate is unlikely to be a destination in itself, but those staying in accommodation in this part of town will find it a peaceful, family-friendly area with good access to the seafront via Milvil Road and the connecting streets. The western beach and the coastal path towards Hill Head are accessible within a reasonable walk. The area is well served by local bus routes connecting to Gosport and Fareham.
