Parking in Lee-on-the-Solent

Where to park: seafront, High Street and residential areas

Finding a parking space in Lee-on-the-Solent is straightforward compared to many south coast towns, though the seafront can fill up on warm summer weekends. There are several options depending on where you need to be.

The main pay and display car park sits on Marine Parade, close to the seafront and the sailing club. This is the busiest car park in Lee, particularly between May and September when visitors come for the beach, the splash park, and the Hovercraft Museum. Charges apply during the day, and the machines accept coins and card payment. Arriving before ten on a summer morning is advisable if you want a space with a sea view.

High Street has limited on-street parking with a mixture of free bays and time-restricted spaces. One-hour free parking is available on parts of the street, which is enough for a quick shop or coffee. Longer stays are better served by the side roads off High Street, where unrestricted residential parking is generally available. Cambridge Road, Grove Road, and Russell Road all have spaces within a short walk of the shops.

The Daedalus area has its own parking arrangements. The Hovercraft Museum has a dedicated car park for visitors on Saturdays, and Solent Airport has separate parking for passengers and aviation visitors. The new Daedalus Village development includes allocated resident parking.

Disabled parking bays are available on Marine Parade and close to the High Street. The seafront promenade is level and accessible from several points along Marine Parade East and West.

For those arriving by bus from Fareham, the main stops are on the High Street and Pier Street, both within a few minutes' walk of the seafront. There is no rail station in Lee-on-the-Solent itself; Fareham is the nearest, roughly five miles north.

Residents generally have no difficulty parking near their homes. Most of the residential streets away from the town centre and seafront have ample on-street space. There are no residents' parking zones or permits required anywhere in Lee-on-the-Solent at present, though this is periodically reviewed by Gosport Borough Council.

On event days such as the Lee Victory Festival, Summer in Lee, and Christmas in Lee, temporary parking arrangements sometimes apply. Marshals direct traffic on the busiest occasions, and additional overflow parking may be signed from the Daedalus site.
