Marine Parade West
The western seafront with the sailing club, colourful beach huts, rock pools at low tide, and striking sunset views across the Solent.
Marine Parade West is the western arm of Lee-on-the-Solent's seafront, stretching from the central area towards Daedalus and Hill Head. This section is home to the sailing club and the main cluster of beach huts, which are a much-photographed feature of the town. The huts are privately owned and come in a range of colours, adding character to the promenade. Lee-on-the-Solent Sailing Club is the dominant presence at the western end, with its clubhouse, dinghy park, and slipway occupying a prominent position on the beach. Visiting sailors are welcomed for open events and regattas. The club runs a programme of races from March to November and offers taster sessions for beginners during the summer. The beach along this section tends to be slightly less busy than the central stretch, and is favoured by locals who prefer a quieter spot for swimming and sunbathing. At low tide, the rock pools exposed at the western end provide entertainment for children hunting for crabs, blennies, and anemones. The promenade continues unbroken along the full length of Marine Parade West, making it ideal for walking, running, or cycling with consistent views across the Solent. Several benches are positioned at intervals, and a couple of mobile catering vans operate during the summer season. The western seafront connects naturally to the Daedalus area and, beyond that, to Hill Head, so visitors walking the full coastal stretch from east to west will pass through here. The sunsets from Marine Parade West are particularly striking, as the view faces south-west across the water towards the mouth of Southampton Water and the New Forest beyond.
