Elmore

A leafy residential area between Lee-on-the-Solent and Gosport, serving as a practical walking and bus route connecting the seafront to the wider peninsula.

Elmore is the eastern fringe of Lee-on-the-Solent, occupying the ground between the town and the borough centre of Gosport. For visitors, it functions primarily as a connecting area rather than a destination in its own right, but it has several points of interest worth noting. Elmore Road leads from the eastern end of Marine Parade towards Alverstoke and Gosport, and the route passes through an area of mature residential streets with some of the larger period houses in the town. The architecture here includes Edwardian villas and interwar houses set in generous gardens, giving the area a leafy, established character. Visitors walking or cycling from Lee to Stokes Bay or Gosport will pass through Elmore, and the route is pleasant and flat throughout. The Elmore area includes access to a stretch of open green space used for informal recreation, and there are footpath connections south to the coast and east towards Alverstoke village. Alverstoke itself has a small cluster of independent shops, a pub, and a village green, and makes a worthwhile detour if you are walking in this direction. Bus services connecting Lee-on-the-Solent to Gosport town centre and the Gosport Ferry (which provides foot passenger access to Portsmouth) run along the main road through Elmore, making it a practical transport corridor. For visitors without a car, catching the bus from Lee through Elmore to Gosport and then the ferry across to Portsmouth opens up the Historic Dockyard, the Spinnaker Tower, and Gunwharf Quays for a day trip. Elmore is quiet and residential, but its connecting role between Lee's seafront and the wider Gosport peninsula gives it practical value for exploring the area on foot or by bus.
